I have travelled a bit with my kilt and accessories. It almost always involved checked luggage for me. Jacket in a garment bag on a hanger, and kilt, sporran etc folded in the suitcase. Usually I fold the kilt in quarters as others have said.
The one time I hung the kilt in the garment bag it came off the hangers during the always careful and super gentle baggage handling process. When I got to the hotel it was in a ball in the bottom of the garment bag and was plenty wrinkled.
I might check out that Celtic Croft kilt hanger garnet bag for future travels.

I have never flown with my kilts. but once when I drove I packed my kilt into a skyroll travel bag. the advantage as I see it is you have a suit bag that wraps around a cylinder. into the cylinder you could put your shoes on one side and on the other you could put kilt accessories. if you got this route I recommend not using hangers as they are not needed while traveling. I just hung my kilt on two suit hangers in the hotel. my kilt came out wrinkle free. there is room enough in the bag for 2 or 3 kilts if they are packed right.
