Known for its colorful plumage and haunting, but surprisingly strident, mating call the Raucous Reedblower is found worldwide, but is most common in Scotland. Occasionally bands of 20 to thirty birds will sing in unison as they strut to and fro in any available clearing.
'A damned ill-conditioned sort of an ape. It had a can of ale at every pot-house on the road, and is reeling drunk. "

I found that this species has a bit louder song than its cousin the "Ruby Throated".

Identifiable from It's Irish sub species by it's louder call over a lesser tonal range and It also has a more colourful range of plumage as the Irish species tends to be plain green.

One of those was flitting around my backyard a while back. Unfortunately he flew right into a closed window killing himself instantly.
We glued a magnet to his rear and he sticks onto the front of our fridge rather nicely.
Amazing creatures, as even today, if you poke his tummy he still sings.
