I'm shooting for Saturday, and I might be bringing one of my laddies. (He thinks he's going to go sans kilt, but I'm trying to talk him into wearing it - he looks so handsome in it!)

Been pretty busy, but moved to Arlington in July. So... Virginia it is! I'll be there Saturday likely with my wife and son. Might return on Sunday. I'm looking forward to meeting some people there.

I will be there on Saturday in the living history area with the Stewart of Appin group.

I'm hoping to be there one day or the other as well. I've always wanted to attend an XMTS M&G. (Too many acronyms? Blame military service on that.)

    Weather affecting the games?

I'm staying optimistic but has anyone heard if the weather could cancel the games at The Plains.
    Regards,
    Tom

From what I'm seeing there's only a 10% chance of rain and highs in the mid 70's which sounds about perfect. My family and I will be there tomorrow.

There were a lot of the activities that we didn't have a chance to see at the 43rd Virginia Scottish Games and Festival. We knew we wouldn't be able to see it all with a few hours Saturday afternoon, but we were glad to see what we did.

I wish I had captured an image of Dierinoch (forgive my spelling of that good-looking wolf-hound's name), who was a hit with visitors and XMTS members as well.

Here are some images that I recorded today at the Games:

The vendors and clans were well represented and so were the crowds (but not uncomfortably so)

Story time with Ern! Ern presented a very good explanation of the history of the Clan Malcolm and MacCallum

We had excellent seats behind the Malcolm-MacCallum tent (thanks Ern), and from there we were able to see the caber toss and the sheaf toss
The Wounded Warriors were represented, and this competitor did an excellent job in the sheaf toss. (Although we sometimes had to guess at the bar height.)

The pipers were piping. I hadn't seen pipers (and drums) in a circle before, but it looked well organized and the music was superb.

The food lines were pretty long. This shot was at about 2:30. You should have seen them at 12:30!!! Whooeee!

The wife and I enjoyed the Glengarry Bhoys in the Entertainment Tent at 3PM.

And then the Empire was also minimally represented.
