Dylon Pebble Beige dyeing Juzo 5760 Socks
At 4 years of use, my original batch of Juzo 5760 ( 85% cotton ) knee high compression hose is wearing out. More the cushioning in the soles than the elastic.
They have lasted this long because I do not follow their "cold wash and low tumble dry" instructions that would give them the "retailer stated" 6 months of life. I cool washed, then half dryed in the dryer at low tumble and finished by hang drying. 3 things kill elastic - heat, oils and chlorine bleach. Pulling the socks out of the drier slightly damp keeps the elastic from getting toasted as they reach full dry. Not applying skin cream to my calves reduces the oil exposure.
After buying about $300 in white Juzo socks online. I went looking for the Dylon colors I need and found two new interesting colors available only from a UK supplier on eBay - Pebble Beige and Pewter Grey. Even though they don't say "permanent" on the front of the European packet, they do say so on the back. This is important as the non permanent dye is for washing machine use and is not near as permanent. My 4 year old, many wash and wear cycle, hand warm dyed socks have only lost maybe one shade of color.
The Pebble Beige seems of some intrest here for the tea stainers and for use with my Wildcat tartan kilt. I haven't seen a pair of "tea stain" hose yet, so I don't know what it really looks like.
I used one packet of dye and warm water to dye two pair of socks. (Just under the 250 Gram limit per packet.)
This photo is comparing the resulting socks after about 3 washes, the last wash being after wearing. The White socks are new, washed, and ready for dying. The paper is 2 sheets of 92 bright multi purpose. The Wildcat kilt is from the second fabric run - used, as hopefully, many here have actually seen it in person. Lighting is overcast skylight daylight.

Pants is only a present tense verb here. I once panted, but it's all cool now.
