Sorry, I just caught up with this post today, but it has already been answered! The tartan in question is the Bute Heather Glencallum as correctly pointed out by Figheadair.
It is part of our 'Bute Heather' range - tartans inspired by Houston's Ken MacDonald from his time on the Isle of Bute.
You can see the full range here: http://www.kiltmakers.com/tartan/sea...e=bute+heather
And learn more about the designs here: http://blog.kiltmakers.com/2014/08/k...heather-range/

Sorry to hear about this trouble contacting us you have been having, we have had some problems with our emails over the last month, but we thought that these had been fixed - may I ask how you were trying to get in contact with us so I can chase up this issue?

I assume gray is popular because it's understated, rather than in-your-face bright (and in this case, a small colored element adds color without being too much). Not to mention, not everyone prefers bright colors. Also (until it became popular) not the norm. And, IMO, rather striking. (I, for example, would like black-and-white tartans-- at least if I could find any more interesting than Erskine or MacRae. I'm a bit fond of one of the forms of Menzies, but have never seen it in a kilt so I can't be sure.)

I agree, I'm not ..... Fond of alot of tartans as they seem either too bright, or too dark, for my taste. The blue heather just struck me (for my taste) as perfect. It's one of those things that give me the OH factor. When spending over $50.00 for an item my wife and I both agree it must have that OH factor, we make a note of the item and check back two weeks later, and again two weeks after that (one month total) and if we still get the OH factor when we see it we either get it or start saving for it.

We're quite happy with the grey version of our tartan and don't find it boring at all. Would it be our choice if we could only have one? Probably not, but it's kind of a nice variation to have available and a bit more subtle than the others.
