    Intersting MacKenzie Kilt

    A 16th Btn CEF kilt c1914-16.

    MacKenzie tartan but the black in the material has faded/corrupted to green. This is a classic colour shift that one finds in the heavy military OR cloth of the first half of the 20th century. I’ve seen similar fading on Black Watch, Cameron and A and SH kilts.

    What’s interesting about this kilt is that the fading appears to be more like a uniform colour change as the greenish black appears to be of the same tone in the pleats and on the under apron. That said, it may be that deep inside the pleats that the colour is still black.
