I have seen my dad abuse clubs with the same vigor but never in the house.

I think his total outfit was an attempt to enhance the formality of the visit (showing up in his best attire).

Pulling things from his undergarment was comic relief (in my opinion). He had a golf bag to carry items in and was not letting go of it for much of the film. Reality would have produced a money purse from his belt or sporran.
