Every golfer must be cringing at his mistreatment of the poor golf clubs.
- Does his jacket indeed whole outfit mean he is a military man or was the outfit just the fashion of the time?
- Was the pulling things out of his underwear a comic affection for the film or did men use underwear to store their valuables?

I have seen my dad abuse clubs with the same vigor but never in the house.

I think his total outfit was an attempt to enhance the formality of the visit (showing up in his best attire).

Pulling things from his undergarment was comic relief (in my opinion). He had a golf bag to carry items in and was not letting go of it for much of the film. Reality would have produced a money purse from his belt or sporran.
