    Kilt pin on leather kilt

Hello everyone. So I recently ordered a black leather kilt. It's designed to look more traditional as compared to some of the other stuff that's out there. Just wanted to know if anyone wore one and if so, did you use a pin? It's a statement piece in of itself so I wasn't sure if anyone else opted for the additional bling.

    Thanks!

A regular kilt pin will leave permanent holes in the leather. I'd look at something that uses a magnet instead. You'll probably need to DIY, but it's not difficult to do.

A kilt pin's primary purpose is to provide additional weight to keep the front apron down. although there are lots of very attractive ones these days, the standard pin could hardly be described as bling.

On a leather kilt, I can hardly imagine the extra weight of a kilt pin will make any significant difference, though a suitable weighted magnetic one might, although they have a tendency to be attracted to passing metal objects. I know because I have made several for aircraft travel, a couple of which I have also lost manipulating luggage in the process.

Since you cannot use a traditional pin, if you want something for show, why not consider taking it to a leather printing expert and getting them to print your choice of pin design onto the leather. An internet search based on leather printing should turn up someone within your local area that does it:

If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

As tpa has suggested, printing would be a better option. There is always having the leather tooled (design embossed) to give your kilt an individual flare. Some kilts just need to be worn without any "bling". Yours may be that sort also.

I've got about ten leather kilts, I never bothered putting a kilt pin on any of them. I think 21st century kilts makes a kilt pin available for their brand.
There are a couple of ways to do it one could sew in a piece of metal in the hem fold over at the appropriate spot so a magnetic pin could fasten. If it were permanent punch two fine holes for the traditional pin to slide through and lock.
    Cheers
