I also think a properly chosen tattersall pattern shirt works well with tartan also--especially for a more relaxed, country-daywear look with a bit of tweed added to the mix--although I do prefer solid color shirts myself. And this discussion also raises another question I've always had: is it appropriate to wear different variations of a tartan, e.g. kilt/necktie/waistcoat/fly plaid in some combination or other of, again for example, Royal Stewart, Black Stewart and/or Dress Stewart? Is that completely verboten, or at the very least really bad form?

So how was your first time venturing out in a kilt? Did everything go the way you thought it would?

Went very well. Got a compliment, and a lot of stares from children

Now by softer colors we're talking blues, greens, whites?

Yeah, my take on Jock's comment was to add to your wardrobe so that you can turn the volume down from 11 when you need or want to. I'm very partial to jewel tones and earth tones, rich colors but not necessarily loud or bright. Tattersall shirts are a fabulous suggestion as well.

    Smile

Commiseration on the missing shirts. I hadn't been married a month when my wonderfully comfortable green shirt with the ducks on it went missing. I have no idea what happened to it. Well, that's not true. I have a pretty darn good idea what happened to it. Just nothing that would stand up in a court of law.http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/i...cons/icon7.png
