The last time that the kilt was officially worn by a kilted unit in battle was by the Cameron Highlanders in France in 1940. Since then, the kilt has been worn unofficially in battle by individuals, Tommy MacPherson and Bill Millin to name two. I have not heard of anyone doing so in Afghanistan, although regimental pipers do, sometimes, wear the kilt whilst on parade and official occasions whilst on deployment.
