    Pipes found on CL

For bagpipe specific questions, I recommend you check out the Bob Dunsire Bagpipe Forums

I believe several members of X Marks also post regularly there. I am sure you will get some useful information regarding your question.

Except for the chanter crammed on the drone pin (grieving widow or vidictive ex, maybe?), it looks legit.....do you know any pipers in the area that could check them out with you? There should be some personal history, too.

Not sure if you realize it, but those are small pipes, or parlour pipes rather than highland bagpipes, totally different. Maccallum makes nice pipes though but can be found cheaper than those.

Is kinda weird the way they have the drones and chanter stuck together on the full size though....

That's really kind of weird. they're showing great pipes (assembled all wrong), small pipes, and a practice chanter. I wonder if it's a case of somebody that doesn't have a clue about what they're offering. It looks like a heck of a deal if they're offering everything for $1200, especially if they really are McCallum pipes. On the other hand, if it seems too good to be true...

This looks like two sets of pipes and a practice chanter (I will stay away from commenting on the clothing.) It's true, the top joint of the bass drone is crammed onto the chanter stock and the chanter onto the bass drone. The second set of pipes in the set of pictures look to be smallpipes. The ferrules and drone caps are compeltely different and the size is different. A look on McCallum's website should allow you to see if, indeed, these (the first set) are their product. If this is a bulk sale (all the items together for the one price, it might be worth your while if the pipes are as advertised. But with Craigslist, as ever: caveat emptor. OC Richard, where are you when we need some true wisdom and an experienced eye?

A little further comment since last: the practice chanter looks like McCallum's B4 model chanter. The drone bushings (the ivory or imitation ivory ring) inside the drone caps doesn't look like an option unless you get up in the very expensive models and those don't have plain drone ring caps. They are engraved--the ones in the CL listing are plain. You can call the seller to request further info. I don't know, I kind of on the fence on this one. Have you considered posting this over to the Bob Dunsire Forums? Lots of smarts over there.
