I dont think i have ever been to a black tie ever and i doubt i ever will.
I have been to the Fox Theatre in Atlanta with the wife for a couple of shows (Ballet or other type productions) and that is the most i expect anymore. Even that is not tux level events. Suits and ties, jackets and slacks, some in jeans and button up shirts. So maybe an Argyll is something to invest in as well- after i get my tweed jacket.
I know this thread started off about being able to go out and be ok in just a vest. In keeping with that topic- i went shirt shopping today for a tattersall type shirt that would complement the Black Watch but couldnt find what i wanted. Anyone have any suggestions? Colorwise? I found one that had blue and green lines but i wasnt sold on it. Maybe i will stick with my solid white. Who knows.
I did dig out my pocketwatch today- and it looked sharp on the vest!

Real Tattersall is not very common any more in N. America. You can find it but you have to look and it will usually be one of the pretty expensive custom shirt places.

I found a couple of shirts in Costco, of all places, that look pretty good with the kilt. Not tattersall, but very good quality and not just simply 'flat' cloth.

I knew i wouldnt find real tattersall but something in that "line".
I saw a few like this: http://www.josbank.com/1905-collecti...ll-dress-shirt
But i didnt have the kilt with me to see how they fit and appeared. I want something to complement and not clash. Anyway. I ne er thought about costco. Thanks for the idea!

Good looking shirt.
Worn my kilt once into one of my favourite clothiers to go shirt and sweater shopping. They were quite helpful.

To get a tattersall shirt I went to Hoggs of Fife, you can find them on ebay or Amazon. Here are a couple of links.

If you want to go out to pick one up locally I have found success at Brooks Brothers.

?????? What????
That shirt, if you add the shipping, and import fees comes to $92.50cad or $70.50usd.
I went down to my local tailor and had one totally custom made for less than that.
I picked out collar style, cuff style, buttons, fit, everything, and even had it custom embroidered with my name inside the collar. All in - with federal and local taxes - was $90.00cad.

Could be worth a look as the import and other taxes will be significantly less. The Hoggs bronze shooting socks will definitely be staying with me though as I haven't got brown yet.

Interesting that a line called 1905 would have modern spread collars. I really dislike spread collars.
