Looks ok to me for casual wear.
My plainest laced shoe is a simple standard pattern I picked up at Payless. Rubber soles, comfy.

Thanks for the reminder. Payless is great for when you need that one style for a special event. We picked up a pair of dress shoes for my son's prom there a while back. I will check them out again. Comfort and simplicity of design are my criteria. Still liking the Birkenstock Navarino.

The thing to remember is unless you part of a regiment then it is not a uniform, if you are comfortable in the shoes, ultimately they are your feet so wear what's comfortable for you in a day to day situation. Of course all that changes if you are going formal or adhering to some other dress code.

Good advice. I'm happy with what I have for day to day, but will also be on the look out for a dressier option. Just in case

I alternate. If I'm getting the slightest bit "dressed up", I.e. wear my tartan kilt and some form of button down, I break out my Corcoran Jump boots, otherwise if I'm casual it's gonna be a pair of Chuck Taylors (I have about five). I wear a kilt cause it's comfortable, so why would I even contemplate wearing shoes that aren't?

A good pair of brogues are very comfortable and very adaptable, but I do agree that there is little ankle support from them. However many in Scotland wear them and brogues are worn to this:-

Yes the same brogues! To this:-

    Barefoot shoes

I use barefoot shoes with my kilt and I have few options that look decent.

I have black vivobarefoot freuds for everyday wear, then more fancy Vivo Bannisters for formal gatherings.

I also have OTZ boots for bushcrafting wich I usually wear with my gaiters and socks. At times I take a run in my kilt and tend to wear more flashy trail running shoes.
