Precisely. Either you're formal, or you're not. It's up there with dinner jackets worn with jeans, or sneakers worn with suits. Make up your mind. But formal-looking attire and fabrics, completed with casual-looking pockets and footwear... makes me think either they're mixed up, or the airline lost their proper shoes and the boots were all they had. I like the concept of cargo pockets at least as much as the next person, but I wouldn't put them on my formal trousers.

This is always what I say, as well! I'm good enough at wearing my own holes into jeans. I don't need help. Long before my jeans get to looking like some of these "pre-distressed" pairs, it's time for the rag pile! And I certainly don't want the manufacturer helping me wear them out in spots by "pre-distressing," either. I've owned a couple pairs with strategic application of this method, and guess where the jeans tend to wear through, long before the rest of them looks even worn?

I'm also a fan of 21st Century's product and philosophy and would love to own one of their three-piece kilted suits in a Donegal or herringbone tweed, although I personally don't care for the slouched hose look or the self-fabric pockets...

Okay, so I'm not a fashionista.

They both look like models being paid to wear those outfits on a runway. They look awful.

I rather agree. I applaud 21st Century's efforts to "modernise" and even popularise the kilt, but my maxim still applies: Wear It Proudly, Wear It Properly, Wear It Like You Mean It. The devil is in the details.

    Hey now!

That person on the right is, at least, smiling. It seems like he might be pretty proud of his attire. The same might be true of the person on the left, for that matter. I'm never quite sure about these things, though.

Thanks, I am very proud of my attire..I am in fact Wearing It Proudly, Wearing It Properly, Wearing It Like I Mean It. The devil is in the details, just because you don't like it, doesn't mean any of the former is not true.

and by "you" i mean anyone. remember this folks, just cause it isn't your style, doesn't mean it doesn't look good.

Kyle, I think you look awesome in Howie's kilt.

As I said above, it's people like Howie and Steve who will ultimately ensure the longevity of kilts as garments and not just costumes.

    They are not models.

These two are though, with Tristan Cameron-Harper - Mr Scotland 2017 - on the left and Finlay Wilson - the two Kilted yoga guys from that video shared everywhere. Sorry it looks postage stamp-sized on the forum. If you click on it it will be bigger.

I am not personally a fan of the front pockets on TFCK, especially as I have a somewhat slight build so I don't think I could carry it off. His kilts also come with two smaller pockets that flip over the back top band, each accommodating a wallet or phone. The front pockets are optional and expensive, at £200 a pair.

Okay, they look good, but let's face it they could look good in bin bags. £200 for pockets, at that price I wouldn't have any money left to put in them.

Just to prove that it is possible to make a kilt that looks good, has all the swish of a traditional, and includes pockets -

Here I am when I visited with Howie of 21st Century Kilts. Both of these kilts have pockets. Mine actually has 2 more than Howie's.

The kilt I am wearing was made in 2006. Here is the same kilt about a year after it was made showing the Side Slash Pockets.

I wear a kilt everyday and this one is worn about once a week. This kilt is still going strong 11 years later. I wore it just this week.
My pockets are always full with a large set of keys, my pipe, zippo lighter, pipe tool and usually a thumb drive or two.

Here is another kilt that could pass for a full traditional kilt any day.

    But with pockets.

This just goes to show, that just because a kilt has modern features, it does not have to be made from solid colored Poly/Cotton.

    I wear the kilt because:
    Swish + Swagger = Swoon.
