Do you know I have never understood why those who are dressing on a financial shoestring fail to do their research. If there are only a few Pounds/Dollars to spare on clothing then why spend it on the wrong stuff? With a bit of research that same amount of money could be much more wisely spent on more suitable attire.
For example, why spend that hard earned loot on a tartan waistcoat when a tartan tie is all that is needed? Fanciful ideas in purchasing inappropriate attire, ----------I see it often on this website sadly-------is a very costly move.
Someone here not so long ago made a very wise comment that many might want to think about and they were:-
"When money is short one cannot afford to get it wrong". Something for some to ponder on before pursuing those fanciful ideas?
What is one persons opinion is just that.......an opinion people ..... on this site people are very generous with them, especially when asked and most give their opinions respectfully.....but remember they are just opinions and in MY OPINION .........go with your heart on what is YOUR special day.....only you and likely no one here, will look back on YOUR photos and enjoy them...... no matter what THE OPINION OF OTHERS

Honouring a clan in a small way without going down the kilt route... I would have to agree with Jock, that a tartan tie is a small, maybe even understated but elegant way to do this.
Although when I first read your post two things came to my mind:
1. A tartan pocket square
2. A tartan handfasting ribbon if that is something you would be willing to do

Katelyn - I may have missed it but you don't mention if you are a member of a clan?
If you are not, then I suggest your husband could honor his clan by placing a sash of his tartan on YOU after you leave the ceremony or when you get to the reception. You could make a bit of a show of it. This is a great way for him to "welcome" you into his clan and would, perhaps, eliminate the need for him to wear any tartan at all.

My Dad's wee tradition every time there is a wedding is to present the new bride with a sash in the family tartan. What this means is that he gets in touch with me and I get him the sash before the wedding. It is a nice way to welcome the new bride into the family.

If you were to do a sash like in the photos you provided, I wouldn't wear the lower end of the sash inside the suit jacket but have the whole sash on the outside. I do have to agree with most of the commentators so far that a vest/waistcoat or cummerbund & bowtie would look much better. Have you decided which MacMillan tartan you'll use? The MacMillan Clan tartan is a bit on the loud side and may be a little bit jarring as trews or even as a vest/waistcoat. A cummerbund & bowtie would be less so in that tartan. Now the MacMillan Hunting tartan with thinner yellow & red stripes wouldn't be as loud and might work better for trews or a vest/waistcoat.

I have to strongly disagree. A tartan is not a fashion accessory, thus is not ever clashing. It is a nametag. No matter what you wear, your nametag cannot "clash".
