    Modern Tartan Kilts

Does anyone know any good, modern kilts made with tartan patterns? I love the utility (get it?) of the modern kilt and it's pockets, but I also love the look of good plaid. I'm also open to the the hybrid box pleated ones like the Team Kilt from Sport Kilt.

    Danke, Rabble!

Is this what you are looking for?

These are the definition of a Contemporary Kilt. They may have the waist worn at full rise, mid rise or low rise. This is called "The Fit".
These may be made from almost any fabric.
They share parts from Traditional and also Utility style kilts.
The most pockets I have every put on a single kilt was 22. The guy was a Celtic Musician and had a whole collection of penny whistles. We made one pocket for each one. He would pick the ones he was going to use on stage and snap them onto his kilt. On stage he would swing his hips and the whistles would flop around. It was the funniest thing you ever saw.

As custom kiltmakers we can do almost anything a customer can imagine. We are not bound to make the same kilt over and over with different Tartans. Each kilt we make is unique to each customer.
Instead of having a rack of pre-made, Off-The-Rack kilts (in essence making my perfect kilt) I would prefer to sit for a while with my customers and listen to them describe their perfect kilt.

    I wear the kilt because:

One of these days Steve, I'm going to save up and get one of your kilts. I love your approach. I was vaguely thinking of anything with external pockets in tartan.

Yes, it is possible, and I have done cargo pockets on Tartan kilts. But it is really hard to get the Tartan pattern of the pocket to line up with the Tartan pattern in the pleats. Even if pleated to Sett the pockets always seem to appear like they are just stuck on as an afterthought.
So most people do not choose that option after seeing them in person.

Can I do it? Sure, why not.

Sorry, I'm not at the shop with access to my photos.

It's fine. Thanks for the tips. I'm really just feeling around blindly at this point, still learning the lingo. I will hopefully be picking up my USA Kilt on Monday (my first tailored kilt!) and after that I'll hopefully have the bravery to venture into higher priced (and higher value) waters.
