Sett width question.
This is DC Dalgleish MacKinlay Reproduction colours. It is basically black watch with a red overcheck. I plan to make a traditional box pleat with it. At first, I thought it had a four and a half inch repeat, but then I realised that this is not the case. I had worked with another modern MacKinlay but since it was knife pleated to the red stripe, I hadn't noticed that the thin black stripes alternate between two and four. So would you consider this a 9 inch repeat (with two red stripes per repeat) in that case and pleat to stripe? I think I know the answer, just confirming.

Yes. 9 inch sett. You may choose to pleat to half setts, though.

You might consider pleating every 3/4 sett....this would give you a kilt pleated to the sett. So, start with the element that has a red stripe for instance and set this as one of your pleats, then move over a half sett to the next red stripe. The next element after that, whether it is the double stripe down the middle or four strips on either side could act as the next element in your pleating...3/4 sett. The only consideration is the actual measurement between the two elements at 3/4 sett as this will help guide the size of each pleat and how symmetrical the finished product may look like. Lots of measuring and test pleats! Post images of the finished kilt!

This is essentially a decorated 42nd sett. As such, why not pleat to the red in the same way the 92nd (Gordon) did?

Because I only had 4m (single width "artisan") woven. So I will test a few options.

That should still work. What's the difference between the reds?
