The battle at PASSENDALE (not Passchendaele) is one of these dramas which could have been avoided. 500,000 casualties (among which more than 170,000 young men lost their lives) and for what? 8km of mud land which was lost again in no time.
But did mankind learned something from its stupidities?
With your back against the sea, the enemy can come only from three sides.

Was the village known as Passendale in 1917?

Please don't use the fallen as a platform to question the leadership of others at times of remembrance, it is just poor form.

I do respect the fallen men and women. But history has to be put into its perspective. The reality of the past is also the reality of today. Very sad.
