We have just been watching it on our news, it looks pretty grim and looks as though its going to continue for some time yet. My heart bleeds for those affected.

I have only been getting light rain and gusty winds, since I'm just at the outer bands of this thing. I'm worried about our Houston friends, though. They are getting incredible amounts of rain and flooding. I hope we hear from soon to let us know if they are OK.

    So far, so good...

We live in Cypress, a suburb on the NW side of Houston (a bit south of Xmarker Dunbar, in Tomball), approximately 30 miles from downtown Houston.

For those of you unfamiliar with Texas geography, the hurricane made landfall at Rockport, 187 miles SW of Houston, which put us on the "dirty side" of the storm (that is, the area receives the most rain).

We're pretty far inland, so storm surge isn't a factor, and given the entire Houston area is low lying, our immediate area is at a decent elevation and well drained.

We've been fortunate in that we seem to have generally been just outside of or on the edge of the major bands of rain passing through the area. That said, we've still had 16.75" inches of rain in the past 36 hours or so, and there have been reports of tornadoes in the area.

Forecasts indicate a couple more days of rain ahead. Flooding will likely continue long after the rain ends, as the water from the north drains down through the creeks and bayous.

Please continue praying for the folks along the Texas coast. Looks like Beaumont is getting the worst of the rains now.

All along the path have been on my mind all week. I'm praying for it to collapse soon. I've a cousin in New Orleans packed and full tank
of gas with nowhere to go if need arises. The cost of flooding is horrendous. Keep safe all.

Yes, it's not the wind that's the issue for Houston. It's the relentless rain from the depression remnants that is causing flooding throughout the city, and not just the low-lying areas to the SE. I live to the NNW of downtown Houston, but anyone in a neighborhood near a creek is in danger of the floods. Thankfully, our home has been spared, but more rain is expected. I have business in another town west of Houston starting Monday, but am stranded by flooded roadways, and will have to work from home via the Internet. I believe our bank building near a bayou is flooded. Regardless, we are among the lucky ones and thank God for our good fortune. My prayers, though, go to the many that have been (and will be) displaced by the floods because the rains will continue for several days.
