    Father Bill,

When I get my Farquharson Kilt and my Argyle Vest n' Jacket, I am going to look some nice at Christmas Eve Services at the Baptist Church I am a Member of. I do have a Wee Farquharson Scarf in the Modern Tartan, Do you think that wearing it through the Left Shoulder Strap of the Argyle Jacket, folded over once lengthwise would look OK, or would it look silly? .. Just a Thought. I've been told by one member here, I am setting a Whole New Trend with what I am wearing as Accessories with my Utility Kilt.

Well Bill, I'm pretty traditional and my first thought is that since a Utilikilt is anything but that, whatever you do won't end up being traditional so it wouldn't much matter.

From my point of view, a scarf or sash is women's wear and you're better with neither than with the wrong thing, and since a fly plaid is pretty extreme in formality, it won't go with a Utilikilt anyway.

Now on this forum, no matter what is said, there will be someone who will disagree, but frankly my choice is generally tartan 8 yd with a tweed jacket (vest optional) proper hose coloured to tone in with the tartan but not to match it, no fly plaid, and a fairly plain sporran with plain Oxford or Brogue shoes, not Gillie brogues. For a shirt, either a white shirt and tie or if no jacket, then a tattersall shirt.

Have a look at this thread for some variations on a theme; you can't go wrong here: http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...-attire-46888/ These guys know what they're doing.

Here's one of my own casual photos:

and here are my son and I dressed for a formal event:

Our hose in this one are way over the top for the event. My son was the man of the evening, so he's dressed up more than I.

    Cheers!

    Hi Father Bill:

I was talking about after I have my Tartan Kilt in about 6-8 weeks and wearing the Highland Dress. Wearing the Jacket and Vest with a Utility Kilt, I even think it would be a bit much. Before reading your last reply, I already thought different about the Scarf through the Shoulder Strap. I got thinking I'd look more like Katherine Hepburn in Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?, than someone from the Highlands... I've decided to wait until I can get the Fly Plaid, and look proper.

You and your Son look really sharp in your Highland wear...

On a different note, the Lady at the Scottish Store in Fergus where I ordered my Tartan Kilt yesterday, has a Mannequin set up in the window wearing a Utility Kilt, with White Ghillie Shirt, Hose n' Flashes, and a Prince Charlie Jacket n' Vest, and there's a Fly Plaid in the Shoulder. In a strange way, it looks kind of catching... I don't know if I'd wear my Utility Kilt this way,

    Thanks

    Bill

OK, I am going to disagree with Father Bill. Not because anything he said is wrong. In fact he is spot on.

I just like disagreeing with Bill. It drives him nuts.
