Loom plans arrived....and yeah...I am crazy.
This ought to be interesting....the translation from Deutsch is pretty literal...but the plans are simple and the caveats and warnings are obnoxiously clear.
Going to build for a 36 inch weaving width, Eight frames, probably ten treadles, flying shuttles, tension brakes on the warp and cloth beams....A tension device for single person warping...
He has plans for a four meter square warping mill with a thread minder that rides up and down and feeds the thread onto the mill...think level.wind fishing reel....might be a little.overkill for me...the thing is made for 90 meter warps...

sounds like a plan.
I've thought about making one but I haven't the time to weave and the wife is allergic to wool and uninterested in weaving. Wish you luck and don't forget pics.

Yeah...a big part of the development of this loom was that Andreas teaches weaving in developing areas...so he engineered it to be able to be built using no power and only with a hammer and handsaw (I will be using significantly more advanced technology)
The folks that he teaches in Ethiopia are commercial weavers, and they are apparently pretty serious about it. Apparently those folks were making 90 meter warps on warping boards and tensioning and winding them 30 meters at a time using pulleys and weights. Not fun...

My wife bought a Leclerc loom, shuttles, heddles , yarn at auction for $40. It appeared o be in excellent condition. I put it in the basement, unassembled for a year or two. She sold it to a woman and her sister who traveled several hours from Quebec to get it at a hefty profit.
Best of luck with your project!

It occurred to me to hunt up a deal on an older loom...but I like building things.
My fiancee knits and wants to learn how to operate a spinning wheel....not trying to build that...that is an art beyond me.
