I believe the Romance languages use that word, or similar, for the country of Scotland.

When I was in France this past spring we had a French family try to attract our attention while I was kilted by shouting "Ecosse". Luckily my wife recognized the French for Scotland

Funny we had the same experience returning to our rented flat in the we hours of the morning after our nieces wedding. A group of young people shouted out “vous est eccosais?”
This was after walking the lobby area of the Ritz and having one of the reception ladies come out and watched me walk back around the corner.

It's part of the Province of Nova Scotia's name from where I was born and raised. So I guess I could say yes in a way. I am from New Scotland....
