My questions are the same. Usually about some perceived upcoming performance or about the tartan. But my third most common question is "Can I buy you a drink?". Both the ladies and gents, in the proper environment, are very interested and generous.

Here in Scotland, and also in the north of England, I often get asked "Are you not feeling cold wearing that?"

I get the same here in Lancashire. The truth is that I am probably warmer than they are.

    NEW QUESTION: STOP PRESS
An American tourist on the Royal Mile wanted to know if I knew the words to "My Way" by F Sinatra and wanted to be filmed singing it with a guy in a kilt. I knew them a bit better than he did which makes the request even weirder.

I only wear a kilt when I have an answer.

For me the kilted days are days when I'm feeling generous about teaching Scottish heritage and traditions: I've just come from an event or it's New Years Eve (or Hogmanay to me!) I wear the kilt every NYE and talk about the Scottish traditions and the origins of "Ol' Langs Syne."

When I'm in the kilt after a parade, I enjoy walking around and running into people and answering the questions. I'm a snare drummer, not a piper, and I like to point out that element of the music since everyone focuses on the pipes.

I like to educate children about the traditions and I like that my own have heard it a thousand times.

It's only drunk adults who ask stupid questions and say stupid things, but that's the same no matter how one is dressed.
