It's interesting to note that in the late 19th & early 20th centuries, it was pretty common for upper class families (and those who imitated them) to dress their boys in kilt outfits.

I also have a picture of my grandfather in the early 1900s wearing kilt, although the picture is so old and faded, it looks like he's wearing a dress. But as his name was William Wallace Boyd, I am pretty sure it's a kilt.
