I just picked up a set of these, I think the same pair as the ones in the first post, got them along with a new belt and buckle. I'm not particular to using a sporran as ive never liked the wrapping around the waist with a constant need to adjust the height, probably due to my slight belly. The wife has also indicated it doesn't look quite right. Since we've been invited to a casual wedding I was given an excuse to spend a little extra on accoutrements. From my very limited use of today I like them and she thinks they make the kilt look better.

I also have this same set for my sporran and for the casual look it seemed better. Though they are ok I would much prefer that it had leather straps instead of the chain. I think I like the full length strap for dressing up better

I usually use sporran hangers, since I don't currently have a leather sporran strap. Mine are from Oconee Leatherworks and I have to agree with the previous poster that I don't expect I will ever wear them out. They were made at the same time as the 3" wide belt I got from Oconee and both items are super heavy duty quality. The hangers don't use a chain, but rather a very smooth and easy to operate claw-like clasp. There is no chance of them snagging on the kilt.
I made my own sporran chain out of a dog leash for occasions that call for a chain. It is very smooth and completely adjustable. I use the spring-loaded clasp that would normally attach to the dog's collar to close the chain, so I can latch onto any link I want. As long as I wear this connecting part in the back under my jacket, the whole thing looks pretty spiffy. I imagine someone more handy than I could make a custom fitting so this very affordable, sturdy, and smooth kind of chain could be used without my jerry-rigged setup.
