I think that some of the "grumpy" looks we see in pictures are misguided efforts to try and look tough. Some folks seem to be afraid that the kilt will somehow look "girly" or something and try to get models to take on overly-macho attitudes to (over)compensate.
Members of this forum will likely agree that any man who wears his kilt confidently looks manly enough indeed. Most people I encounter when I'm wearing mine seem to feel this way as well.
So good on you and keep on kilting. And congratulations on your wedding plans. Getting married is easily the best decision I have ever made and I wish you two the same kind of happiness my wife and I have enjoyed!

Thanks, Andrew! I think it helps that I wore one from an early age. I just became comfortable wearing it. Now, I do NOT wear my kilt on every visit to Scotland. Only on occasions really, like the tattoo or even the rugby. I think there is always a degree of self consciousness in wearing it. I just have a dram of Lagavulin 16 and get on with it and don't worry about it!
Thanks for your wishes too! I will be kilted for our wedding so I have to find some more formal clothes to wear with the kilt. Always a good excuse to look for some other stuff.
Best,
Adam
