An early Christmas gift from a co-worker. I'm not usually a fan of rye, but this is very good. A relative newcomer and made right here in the Olde North State.

I will have to watch for that one. 100% rye is definitely only for the hard-core enthusiast, but the words "High Rye" on the label is always a good thing in my opinion. I myself have settled into a long-term relationship with Old Grand-Dad Bonded--sturdy stuff at 100 Proof and ridiculously affordable in most areas of the US, with plenty of dry rye spice to counter the sweetness of the corn, but not too much. And if you should happen to come across the now-discontinued Old Grand-Dad 114--STOCK UP!

I just picked up this bottle, I have not opened it up yet. I have only had a few whiskeys that were finished in 2nd barrels. Although I have had some beers finished in sherry casks and have enjoyed them.

The clerk at my local Spec's recommended the Balvenie 14 to me, and I must say I like it a lot!



It's a Speyside whisky aged in oak casks then finished in rum casks. Very tasty.

I covered for a co-worker while he went home to India recently. As a "thank you," he brought me a bottle of Aristocrat Premium Whiskey. Has anyone heard of this? The label is stamped with the words; "Not for sale outside the Punjab." In the small print it states; "a blend of scotch malts and Indian spirits." It's only 75 proof, so I'm thinking these Indian spirits are not really "spirits." I am of course grateful that he brought this back for me, but am wondering if it should stay on the shelf or if sampling is in order. One thing is for sure, this is probably the only bottle I will ever see of this elixir. Thoughts?

I recently picked up the Glenfiddich Experiment #1 - IPA. I didn't find it exceptional, though it is very good. It appreciated exposure to the air and a wee drop of filtered water. That it was about 30% off was a bonus.
