Classically trained kilt maker (came from Scotland)in North County San Diego

I am looking for anyone who had known an elderly lady (she may be deceased now) who had lived in north county Carlsbad/La Costa (San Diego) area and was a classically trained kilt maker from Scotland. She had made a Highland kilt for Scottish dancing competitions for my daughter about 20 yrs ago. She had been recommended to me by Margo Naismith (my daughter's Scottish dance teacher). I am preserving my daughter's Highland dance outfits and am documenting all of the details regarding the making of them. Is there anyone that can help me?

    Thank you,
    Deborah Peterson

Hi! I would bet that the kiltmaker was Elsie Scott Stuehmeyer, although she lives in Petaluma now in northern California. She is still going strong! She apprenticed in Glasgow in the late 1940s, so she would be the age of the person you're looking for.

    Thanks....

Yes, that does sound right. Do you recall the kilt maker that she had apprenticed with in Glasgow? I will try to locate her and see if she still has all the information for all the kilts that she had made. Thank you so much.

    Found the Info...

Nevermind, Barb, I found what I was looking for. Yes, that is the person who made my daughter's kilt (a little over 20 yrs ago, wow, where has the time gone). Now I need to come up with a value for this kilt (it is absolutely stunning). Any ideas how I go about doing that?

    Thanks,
    Deborah

Elsie apprenticed at Thomas Gordon's in Glasgow starting in 1949 when she she was 15. PM me, and I'll send you her email address.

And, in terms of value, any Highland dance teacher could advise you on how much the kilt is worth.
