I'll give Sam ( @Wareyin ) a mention so he'll have time to put together a slide presentation and film of various

I'm glad you thought of this in time; I had hoped to include you in the mentions for planning this one, but I didn't recall your user name being

Thank you so much for thinking of me. I am afraid this weekend won't work for me but I do hope to be in attendance at a future gathering.
    Thanks again,

I like the look of angora goat hair, (not as long or as military looking as the horse hair,) but my question is; does the fur or goat hair extend onto the gusset or is the gusset visible from the side? I've seen a few on line but cannot tell from the photograph if this is the case. Thanks for any advice and pictures would certainly be helpful.

Well, I recently had the same problem. My first ever sporran (photo 1) is the ubiquitous black tasseled day-wear item. I bought it in 1993. I wore it for everything until I began going to more formal functions so I commissioned a leather worker I met at the local Tandy to make me a formal skunk hide sporran from scratch. I believe he charged me $120 including materials. If I could find him I'd give him another hundred! But, I digress.

I began finding myself at Christmas parties and similar functions, in a black Argyll and long tie, nice hose, etc., but with the black day sporran- note the paint worn off the brass snap button . I felt as though my sporran wasn't up to the rest of my outfit, but the formal skunk was certainly too much. Thus, I began trying to solve the problem.

First, I thought of purchasing a Celtic brooch, or the like, and devising a way to attach and detach it from the flap of the day sporran to make it nicer. But, after some thought, I decided it would look too much like a Celtic brooch which I had devised in a way to attach and detach it from the flap of the day sporran to make it nicer!

Then, a few of you may have seen my posts of a bit back where I bought a leather sporran off of Ebay and tried to devise a way to attach a little fur on the front to make it a bit fancier. However, it was basically a sows ear, and trying to devise a way to attach a little fur on the front to make it a bit fancier would not a silk purse make of it. (As Yoda might say.) I think I'll bequeath it to my 10 year old grandson.

So, I finally fessed up and ordered this sporran from Margaret Morrison. I looked at many, and narrowed it down to this, or a simple hunting sporran from USA Kilts. The same that Jumpmonkey saw here https://www.usakilts.com/hunting-spo...val-black.html

In summary, for those times you want to dress up a little without being formal, a nicer day sporran than the one you already have is the answer. And, save yourself the trouble and just spring for it from a reputable vendor.

Thank you all, great input. I did a rather lengthy search to try and find something in my price range. Initially I found a sporran with a fur front, (reportedly highland cow,) and a black leather flap. The highland cow part came in to question when I realized it was coming from Czechoslovakia. The seller was very nice and sent additional photographs upon request. Still it was more than I wanted to gamble with so I continued the search. I came upon a sporran that fits the bill nicely. It's by L&M and was clearance priced at 30% below the price on the L&M website as well.

(Hoping this works.) I think this is just what I was looking for.
    Thanks again,
