Office gathering advice....

Greetings to all.......As I see, several veteran rabble are online, I'll ask for your input. In, about, 6 hours, we are headed to "SWMBO's" office gathering. Very informal, termed California Casual. The under 30 crowd
thought it meant torn jeans, spike heels & cleavage. They were corrected to, "If it couldn't be worn to work on a casual day, don't dare wear it". Outdoor setting, dinner, nothing fancy. The question, "Kilted, or no?" im thinking kilt (Johnstone), appropriate colour shirt, blue kilt hose, black sporran & shoes. The employers (Cardiologists) said no ties. They want to relax. To those that have gone kilted for many years, would I be out of line/place going kilted? A couple of co-workers have dated Scots. They attend localism Highland Games, & enjoy a good Haggis. Both will give the traditional hug, followed with "Longtime no see, nice legs". I've known them for years, &'know their sense on humour. As always, comments alway appreciated. Ta!

Sounds fine to me. I'd suggest a light-colored shirt. Maybe light blue or even mint, or a blue-based tattersall if you have one.

Guessing you've already left, but if not - KILT for certain...

Had I gotten to this earlier, I'd suggest kilt with light colored shirt, no jacket, tie or vest.

If heavy drinks are involved and outdoors, frisbees are not hats worn with kilts, later, lamp shades are not hats either. Have fun and (as Glen suggests) post photos please.

Went kilted. Arrived early, outside temperature about 87, & fairly blustery. Immediately, had to change into the more traditional pants look. The office gathering was held in the middle of the building complex. Outside of the 4 buildings, the wind wasn't bad. The interior of the complex became a wind tunnel. On the windy side, the angle of the buildings created a great venturi. For myself, curtain weights might have helped, just a bit. SWMBO feared that she might need to remain seated all night. Water from the decorative fountains blew across the area. The roar of the 3.00'' ID water jets made conversation difficult, hearing the Physicians speak from 30' away was impossible. Fortunately, for us, we had been at our daughter's, earlier. Actually, SWMBO was at our daughters, I was working there. Ticking off items on the Lackey Do list (they just bought their first house, & our son-in law blew out his back). As such, an appropriate attire change was available for both of us.

As for kilted attire, the Cardiologists had no issue with anyone being kilted. It is an eclectic group of Physicians. One was ethnically dressed, as was one spouse. The do not do list was, wear nothing revealing, nothing torn, nothing waaay tooo short, & absolutely no heavy drinking. Was it a good time.......eh. Visited with employees I've know for years, that's always good fun. The caterer missed the mark, & the location could have been better. Those agreed to, by most. Sadly, the more opinionated (under 30's) thought all was perfect. That put, they violated most of the don'ts. AND.......they convinced the "CBO" Cardiologist to do it again, next year.
