Size Altering?

Hi, I was wondering if a kilt that is larger in size could be made smaller in size by shortening the width of the inner and outer apron. And then moving the straps to the new width?

I've seen a couple of kilts on Kijiji for cheap... and one is a size 50. It measures 76 inches when laid out. My waist is 46 at my navel. I realize there is overlap of the apron.

This is probably just wishful thinking but I am a curious sort.

That thread contains great information that has allowed me to take my kilt in twice, now 4 inches smaller.

The one thing I found almost impossible is stitching through enough layers to ensure material isn’t under stress once altered. The solution for me was to unstitch enough lining to provide access that allowed me to sew through all the layers. I would recommend this as it means sewing is easier on the hands, it will never stress the tartan, from experience this method was quicker and more reliable - but that could be down to my incompetence and knackered hands.

Indeed it does! This opens up a lot of possibilities that I otherwise would have overlooked.
