    Copper cantle hunting sporrans?

Hi everyone! I’ve had an idea for a sporran, and I’d like to know what you think about it.
I would like a somewhat formal sporran, that is useful for both day and evening applications, and simultaneously I would like to avoid strapping roadkill to my crotch, a la full mask sporran. I like the idea of brass cantles for daywear, and I have a vintage copper or bronze Vacheron Constantin pocketwatch (I have yet to bring it to a watch expert to find out more about it, particularly it’s authenticity, because at the price I paid for it it surely must be a fake). I thought that a black hunting sporran with a copper or bronze cantle to match my watch and chain would be a cool way to tie together my outfit; I don’t mind a little bit of matchy-matchy.

    1. Although I am confident it would be æsthetically attractive, especially paired with a black waistcoat featuring my VC watchchain, I would like to know how appropriate this would be for both daywear and eveningwear in terms of “correctness”, also wanting to avoid a ‘neither fish nor fowl’ situation.

    2. Where could I get such a sporran? I have found an outfit called Afro-Celtic Sporrans out of Cape Town, South Africa, and they do custom sporrans like what I am looking for at the reasonable price of €120. Has anyone done business with this company before and are able to share their experiences?

    3. Does anyone know of any alternatives for such a sporran? I have looked far and wide, thinking I could do a conversion, but it seems like most of the quality (ie non Sialkot) hunting sporrans are $200 US plus, which is beyond my budget at the moment.

    What are your thoughts? Thanks!

I have seen a few copper and brass cantle sporrans and think that most of them look great. They are harder to find then the grey/silver color metal cantle sporrans yet they are out there. Artificer has made some and some and on rear occasions vintage brass cantle sporrans have been spotted in places like ebay. On a quick search I have found the following:

    https://www.tartanista.co.uk/tartani...e-v-12317.html
    http://store.stillwaterkilts.com/Bro...Belt_p_61.html

The prices are all over the place.

If you want one sporran that will work for most occasions a hunting sporran with a metal cantle is one sporran that can do this.

The OP asked about copper or bronze cantled rather than brass. Both are much rarer and neither widely available as far as I know. By way of comparison, here is a brass cantle and a bronze cantle side by side, the latter is mid-18th century.

Yes, the idea is to get something that matches my watch, so I would prefer to get a leather cantle rather than a brass one that didn’t match.

In fact, it appears that thekiltstore.com carries a few day and evening sporrans with copper cantles.

I suppose I should have specified that the bag would ideally be black leather. Black so I can wear it as evenlol by wear, and leather so I can wear it as day wear (although those are attractive sporrans.)
