I'd say this style is more geared towards the tactical style kilt. However, Stillwater sells tartan Kilts, so I assume they are marketing towards their tartan clientele. Is it traditional? No, but it fills a niche for kilt wearers in North America. I suppose you could wear it with any kilt in a camping/outdoor situation. I would personally wear it as a hip pocket without the tassels, but then again im military and I've grown accostumed to this type of tactical carry all pouches.

I find this style works in 'outdoor' situations/walks etc where one needs slightly more 'stuff' in one's sporran. For me, there is slightly more room and they are a little more forgiving/robust for the environment, if you wish to preserve your leather day sporrans. Not used exclusively, but is a good alternative option, for me.

Unlike the vast majority of all Sporrans, this is a daily wear item with multiple pockets and compartments. Anyone that has ever had to try and retrieve their keys, wallet, pocket knife, cell phone or various other items from a single compartment sporran packed with their keys, wallet, pocket knife, cell phone or various other items knows the benefit of a sporran designed as a modern and practical piece of luggage. It's not a costume piece made to be worn with traditional Scot attire. it's more for the daily wear kilt.

I hadn't even heard of these until now. What is the point of these when the hunting sporran exists? I have never owned a hunting sporran but I know it is to reduce noise made from sporrans with tassles and I can infer it is very versatile so it would be suitable for outdoor/camping activities.

Please don't misconstrue this, I am not telling people what kilt gear they can and cannot wear, I am merely expressing how I feel.

We all have different tastes when it comes to the kilt.

I wear it with casual kilts, my Amerikilt, Elcommando, and even my 511. It’s convenient even with pocketed kilts and it goes to help people identify the non-tartan ones for observers. I just retired after 31 years in uniform and it serves an double convenience, at lest the old one did before I destroyed it through a few years of hard use. I got the old one like 10 years ago and just managed to completely destroy it only recently. I had originally asked about the model offered in leather, then noticed I had begun stressing the seams from overloading. Can’t wait for this new one.

I've modified my basic, day-sporran with a simple leather pocket at the back (inside). It holds my phone, wallet, small folder, and screw-driver neatly, and readily accessible. One pocket clip on either side keeps keys and pen handy, the couple rare use items sit on the bottom. Anyhow, don't discount the classic, simple leather sporran. A few dollars and a few minutes work can fix you right up!

I've made an insert that acts as an internal divider that also has elastic loops for my cell and pocket knife. I use it with my formal and leather sporrans but have been wanting a more practical solution.
