Sizing question

So I ordered a kilt from Scotland and I thought I measured right but it is too big. It is a 36 and I would be closer to a 32. I was going to just move the straps 4 inches but I also find the apron seems wide on me compared to pictures I have seen. I am talking more around the knees if that makes sense. Will a 32 fit a lot different than a 36 taken down 4 inches? I am only asking because although the componys customer service has need awesome it is costing me a small fortune to send it back. Also I am at a thin period right now so who knows what size I will be in a few years. Thank you in advance

Moving the straps a buckles to make a kilt smaller is a common and inexpensive way to re-size a kilt.

Making a kilt smaller is easy. Making one larger is a pain.

The width of the apron should be around a little more tahn 1/2 of the waist and taper wider at the hips to allow the apron to gently wrap around the knees and not flare outward.

To re-size a kilt you remove the right side buckles and the left under apron strap.

When you sew them back on you MUST insure that the stitching goes all the way theough the outer fabric into the stabilizer strip and interfacing hidden inside the kilt.

DO NOT just sew the straps and buckles to the outer fabric. The facric cannot take the stress amd will distort and the stitching of the pleats will fail.

If you unstitch the liner inside a kilt, this is what you should find hidden underneath. The whole reason for the liner is to hide these internal strengthening elements.



If you sew the straps and buckles to the outer fabic alone and not anchor them to the internal elements this could end up as the result.

This distortion of the apron fabric is now permanent and cannot be fixed.

Thank you. I decided to just send it back for different size. I would have had to move them at least 4 inches and it just seemed to big overall.
