My First Attempt.
Always wanted to have a go at making my own sdian dubh. So here it is.

The handle is made from African blackwood with brass ferrels. The carving is of a thistle that goes down into a celtic knot.

The blade is made from Damascus steel from http://www.lochnessorigins.com/

And a hand made leather sheath with a stags head.

I like the look and know the pride you get when you've made your own keepsake. Good job.

Well done, especially the fitting of the cap and ferrel.

I am very glad that you posted this. I don't have the ability to forge, and was wondering if someone makes blades that you can apply your own handles. I thank you for posting a site that does.

Sgian Dubh Blank
Try Atlanta Cutlery. I bought a sgian dubh blank from them, just haven't gotten around to making the handle yet.

Sterling fittings certainly add to the cost but I would hesitate to pay over $500 for the finished knives I saw there.
