Where can I purcahse the Lochaber axe

I am working on developing a color guard for the Donald Clan, Mid-Atlantic Region to be organized for Scottish Games, and other Clan events. I would like to used two Lochaber axes on each end of the Color unit consisting of the US Flag, Scottish National, Clan Donald Crest, and possibly the Union Jack. There will be a lead Clansman leading the Color Guard, and behind he Guard unit several of Donald Clan Tartan Flags. I just feel the Clan Parades that we have today, especially in the US has become to casual, to a point of being disrespectful of our heritage. I would like for the Donald Clan to set an example. Assembling a color guard would certainly restore some clan pride.

I would like to have more of a fancy type of Lochaber highly polished, and of course the poles. I am not familiar enough where to purchase such items, but they would only be used for ceremonial use when we present colors on the guard. Do any of you know of a good place I could purchase two of these items?

    Thank you.

Will the color guard be wearing some type of uniform? How about muskets?

THought of it, but rather use the Lackabar, more traditional. Muskets sometimes are harder to transport between states because of local gun laws, but you can transport a battle ax, go figure. No uniform neither, this is not a military color guard, I am calling it the Clan Donald Guard Unit. Pure civilian.

I'd be surprised if that were an issue anywhere. Muzzle-loaders are not considered firearms under federal law, and I'm not aware of any state that considers them such. But obviously, there are a lot of different local laws to check when you're traveling. Perhaps a non-firing replica would be a safer bet if you did want to use one?

Yes in most cases an unloaded black powder firearm is not considered a firearm for purposes of shipping or sale across state lines. So you can buy one from the cabelas website and have it shipped to your house and it is perfectly legal.

However, they can fall under local laws when loaded or discharged (laws prohibiting public carry or discharging within city limits).

For instance, I can buy a black powder musket online and have it shipped to my house without the usual (for California) background check, waiting period, or registration as if it were not a gun but were I to load it and transport it in my car or fire it in town the laws prohibiting transporting a loaded firearm in a vehicle (state law) or discharging a weapon within city limits (San Diego law) would apply as for any other type of gun.

So a musket used for parades shouldn't be much of an issue. However, with that in mind, Tobus' suggestion of a non-firing replica is sound as many local law enforcement may not be aware of the minutiae of muzzle loader regulations.

Of course that's irrelevant if you're set on lochabar axes.

I feel like I've seen references to them being associated with some clan more strongly than others.

That is a "Lochaber" ax. There are several makers providing these axes and a walk through the Net will turn up a few.
