My wife was born and brought up in Meadville, just down the highway, and never knew about this festival. Interesting....

Great pics, Nile! Glad to see the younger generations embracing their heritage and/or kilt wearing.

Thanks, Meal! I see a lot of kilted families at these events. We'll be attending the Celtic Classic in Bethlehem, PA (the largest of these events that we go to) and I expect to see a lot of kilt wearers, young and old. The Celtic Classic is right in the center of the town, very family friendly, free of charge, and it attracts 100,000 people a day.

Simon Fraser fought as MacShimidh, a Highland chief… wrapped and belted in a plaid over the top of his linen shirt, like his ordinary kinsmen. He put a bonnet on his head, and stuck the Fraser emblem, a sprig of yew, in it. With the battle cry, A'Chaisteal Dhunaidh and the scream of the pipes, they charged to battle. My wife and I were born and raised in New Castle, PA, south of Meadville and just north of Pittsburgh. Though we now live in Delaware, we were visiting friends in Erie, PA and decided to spend a day at the games.

Though not the largest Highland Games we've ever attended, it had plenty to do and see. The setting was the Edinboro University Campus and the events were all sanctioned so there was some serious competing going on.
