I would stay away from loafers, but prefer oxford ties, either cap toes or wing tips. You can never go wrong. If going to Scottish or Celtic festivals, I will wear a plain oxford tie up with good rubber soles, like the Rockport. Of course shined up to the max. Unless the weather is bad I will wear waterproof ankle boots. I am not one to wear work boat of boats over the ankle.
At formal Scottish events and dressing black or white tie, I wear Scottish buckle shoes by Thistle. Once and awhile I will wear Ghillies, but I do not have the up the leg lacings, I cut them down so they tie normally, just not my style.
I try to keep it simple.
