    Cunningham Hunting

    Hi,

I’m looking at buying a kilt for my wedding later this year and I like the look of the Cunningham Hunting Tartan. https://www.tartanregister.gov.uk/tartanDetails?ref=850

However, I have an issue with the colours. I think I would prefer the kilt in modern colours but I’ve found that I can’t get a swatch as it’s not commonly woven by the mills and I’m not prepared to risk buying it and finding I don’t like it. I have a swatch in the ancient colours but I am not so keen on the washed out look of that.

I realise this is a long shot but my question is does anyone have a kilt of the Cunningham Hunting tartan in modern colours? If so, can you share a picture of it to give me an idea of what it looks like?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Scott

Well met and welcome Scott. I can't help you with a kilt in Cunningham modern but am glad to have you with us. Other members will surely post or message you and answer your question.

As this tartan is also known as Nicolson/MacNicol Hunting, you might look for it under those names too.

I have never seen the version of the Hunting Cunningham/Nicolson shown in your link, but I do have the weathered variation of it, which appears to be still available from Lochcarron.
I bought fabric in this tartan from Lochcarron at Selkirk, Scotland a number of years ago and sent it to Lady Chrystel in France, who created a box pleated kilt for me.
Here is a lionk to the tartan on Lochcarron site.

    Also pleats shot.

Sorry for the delayed reply, thanks for the welcome and the info.

Great to see the picture of the weathered variant, does anyone own the ancient variant? It would be interesting to see a kilt of that rather than just the sample I have.

    Cheers.

I have never seen the Ancient Hunting Cunningham.
I owe you an apology though. I previously said that I had not seen your version of Hunting Cunningham but only the Weathered version.
In fact when I started searching for Ancient Hunting Cunningham I found that I had previously seen a swatch of Hunting Cunningham back in 2009, when Lochcarron gave me a small piece to display on the Clan Cunningham stall at the Muster of the Clans held at Bowhill, Selkirk that year.
I attach a photo of this swatch taken at the time. I may still have the swatch.
The tartan is (or was in 2009) available in Strome Weight (16/17oz) from Lochcarron of Selkirk.3926093668_7dcf18ed94_z.jpg
