I like the Idea of taking her to a highland games or something like that. Luckily my wife is all for me wearing a kilt , the only problem I have is she gets mad that i look more dressed up then her.

My wife was reading over my shoulder, saw mention of that video, and zipped over to www.amazon.com where she purchased it for roughly $14, shipping included.

    Thanks, Barb!

Look at all this support Dana, pretty cool.

    My best to your wife.

    I like Mychael's "sit down, heart-to-heart" suggestion.

If that don't work, a friend of mine used a method I still admire. His wife objected to his buying a Harley. So he accepted that but started bringing home books from the library on hang gliding, magazines about hang gliding, and brochures on hang gliders.

Wasn't long before she suggested he get a Harley instead.

Perhaps you could use the same tactic with nudist literature. Contact the American Association for Nude Recreation, the Naturist Society, etc. Perhaps then she'd suggest you wear a kilt....

    Videos...

I'm wi' Barb: "When the Pipers Play", which is the third of the "Instrument of War" video trilogy about the history of military piping, is a "must-see" for any serious kiltie.

The first installment has great footage of interviews with surviving pipers from the First World War and even a Boer War veteran -- wow! The second video takes you around the world to "unexpected" places like Jordan and Brittany in France where the pipes are used by military forces as well.

    Cheers,

    T.

I like the Instrument of War videos as well. Some of the coverage is the same in Pipers Play, but more condensed. If you want more detail, Instrument of War is great.

Har! It sounds funny, but it could help put the kilt request into proper perspective.

Seriously though, I am curious to hear an update on this situation from Dana. I have seen Blu express in the past his observation about how what at first appears to be a dislike of the kilt by some spouses is really more accurately a dislike of adverse reactions they feel they may be party too as a result of being seen with a fellow in a kilt. As I wrote earlier in this thread, more often than not one or two good outings is all it takes to put tentative spouses at ease. It can even lead to their becoming more passionate about kilts in a positive manner.

There are times when I am a little self conscious wearing a kilt because I sense discomfort in a mate who may be with me. I ignore it, they ignore it, nothing bad happens, and everything is fine after that.

    Hi Mychael,

Well, unfortunately last night we had the confrontation. And I think you may have hit it pretty much on the head as far as the adverse reactions. First off she thinks that kilts are not acceptable wear for men because they are skirts. I tried to explain to her that it was a man's grament, but I'm not sure I convinced her.

She said that she's never seen anyone wearing a kilt, so that makes them too unusual to be accepted. I told her that lots of people wear kilts to Scottish games and such. She asked if I was planning on going to any of these events. I told her that I probably would, to which she replyed, "then you can wear it there." So this may actually be a starting point, although I doubt she will atted with me.

The fear of what other people think is very real for her. She said that people would think I'm gay because I'm wearing a skirt. Again I tried to tell her it's a KILT, a man's grament. I told her that most people would recognize it as a kilt. Then the only question would be "why do you want to wear a kilt?"

She brought up old issues of when I got my one and only tattoo, which I don't need to bring up here. This may be the root of the whole issue. I think the kilt hating may actually pass at some point.

I'm not sure where the issue stood at the end of the "converstaion", but I will try and keep you informed as to how it's going. At least we were talking again and sleeping together wasn't as "cold" as it had been the previous couple of nights.

It's not as easy for me to put my thoughts down into text as it may be for some people, but I will do the best I can.

Thanks to everyone for their support and suggestions. This truely is a great community

    Use her own logic.

Make her stop wearing troosers... You don't want people thinking she's a man. It's a man's garmet, and she has no place wearing them.

Reversing somebody's logic against them most of the time completely destroys their defenses on an issue, leaving them lost and confused and unsure of where they stand on an issue when they realize how foolish they are.

    Sounds like progress Dana,

There's a good background on men and kilts at www.kiltmen.com if you haven't shown it to her already. Might help with perspective.

She might also be ticked that you sprung it on her rather than involved her in the planning and ordering. Approving of an independent decision of yours might mean giving up control to her.

What part of the world do you live in. Maybe we could organize a "Kilt In." All of us nearby could come for a visit kilted....
