Although my 2 SportKilts now serve as only bath wraps, there were my first "kilts". The first was a a gift from my sister who had seen them at a mountain bike race. 3 weeks later I bought my second. Since then I haven't purchased another from them, but I have several from other kilt makers.

I think SportKilts are a start for many people. I hope people buy them and cultivate a healthy interest in kilts. Over time they will migrate to some of the higher end kiltmakers.

Most of us didn't buy a Rolls Royce as our first car. U gotta start somewhere...

I am not surprised that Sport Kilt out sold Amerikilt. Sport Kilt had been in the business of selling their products longer than a lot of kilt makers. They have been in the business since the mid 90's. They used to have advertisment in the back of the Cycling Magazines and was advertise as a portable change room for the atheletes. If you compete in outdoor sporting events, you will know that changing spaces are at a premium. Most people just changed inside of their cars and try to avoid the public eyes.

Sport Kilt really helped us to stay out of the eyes of the public and most of my old cycling buddies/teammates used the product at various points of their lives.

If you are a into outdoor activities, the overall look of the garment is less important that how it functions. So what if the pleats wander or shallow? If I can take off my cycling shorts after a 2 hour bike race under the hot sun without flashing anyone, I will use it.

But I really think their Boulder Kilt looks pretty good. Too bad it doesn't show the front of the kilt. I think it will help more people to get into wearing kilts. It is a good thing.

The picture, from the back, looks exactly like an AmeriKilt... pocket and all. The sewn hips, belt loops, real pocket, pleats and all look very similar.

That price is a HUGE incentive for them, and they should do REAL well with them.

And yes... my first American kilt was a SportKilt. It served me VERY well. Then the "trade-ups" began. the trick has always been to find the maximum in quality for the least money. It's almost a game, ain't it?!
