Salado (Texas) Clan Gathering cancelled

Just received an email from the Salado Museum that the 59th annual clan gathering (second weekend in Nov.) has been cancelled due to concerns around COVID-19.

Apparently, the event will have a new home beginning next year and a new sponsor (Johnny's Outback).

Very disappointed to hear this, but not surprised. This is one of our favorites, and is (in my mind, at least) the kick-off to the best time of year in Texas.

I'd say this doesn't bode well for the supposedly rescheduled Texas Scottish Festival, the Houston Highland Games and Kerr County Celtic Festival.

Bummer!

Indeed. The Kerr County Celtic Festival has already been cancelled. I didn't even bother posting it because it was pretty much a given for any public gathering this year.

Looks like the Houston Games have been cancelled as well!

This was to have been my busiest Highland games season — I was scheduled to participate in seven events.

In the end, I only was able to participate in one.

Here's hoping that next year is better!

Wow that is strange. I received a call from Mary a month or so ago asking if it was held would we participate. I told her if they were open, we would be there. She said most of the clans said the same thing so they were going to go forward. I wonder what happened? Belton was having some issues with the Wuhan virus spreading so that probably influence the decision.
