That's a good looking hat! I know some folks scoff at the idea of a broad-brimmed hat with a kilt but there are certain hats that -- in my eyes -- work with a kilt. Then there's the reality of keeping as much sun as possible off of my pasty-white skin.

Thanks, I think they look good too. I'm with you re keeping the sun off. I go from Pasty Pale to Lobster in 2 seconds, then sore for days! The kilt is incredibly versatile, so what goes with it can be too. Respect tradition for traditional events, but run with practical too. Best D

I realise that I'm not a Scot, I don't live in Scotland, and am certainly not of the generation that would've worn the father/grandfather (untailored "little" kilt/belted plaid) of today's traditional kilt as everyday clothing but I do try to think of those folks -- I'm sure that most of the highland men would've worn whatever it took to be safe and warm followed by comfortable in that time. For those that could afford it, perhaps a few other pieces of clothing to look a bit nicer. But I doubt they would've fussed over the minute details that we often fuss over today.

Totally agree. I think a few wise people on here have said, treat the kilt like trousers in terms of your other clothes, if it's a jeans equivalent day, then a tee/polo/reg shirt is good. If it's a dressier event then work with that. What other garment is good for a walk in the woods, but with a PC will look great at a formal dinner do....? I'm looking forward to cooler days when I can do the tweedy/sweatery kind of combos...
