I tend to have no problems with wearing a sporran in the conventional position. Though, for some odd reason it tends to cause kilt bunching issues when I tackle long smooth inclines. For those occasions I usually just rotate it to the side.
On longer trip I will sometimes forgo the sporran due to it getting in the way of a hip belt. If you ever do anything in the snow, leave furry sporrans at home! I find those can turn into nice crotch bashing iceballs if you don't keep an eye on them hahahah.
