I think I've completed my Smart Daywear outfit.
Work schedule is all over the place these days, it seems like I never have a day off. Today I ended up with a free morning, and it was cold enough to dress up. Here’s me ready to walk the dog and pick up some coffee. :-)

The cap-toe Oxfords are new, and it’s the first time I’ve ever owned a pair of dressier shoes. They're made by Lems in Boulder, Colorado and have a footshape toebox which accommodates my wide foot well. They don’t make ghillie brogues wide enough for me, so this was the next-best option. Highly recommended if you have wide feet, or otherwise prefer footshape and minimal shoes.
I think this completes my first take on a Smart Daywear outfit - the shoes were the latest addition. I'd like to replace the chain with a strap at some point, and I did finally find the matching khaki pigskin from WE Scott & Son. I'd also like to find a lovat green jacket & waistcoat set, and eventually a brown Harris Tweed, but I think I'll hold out for another second-hand deal on both accounts.

Looking good! Save the gillie brogue idea for when you join a pipe band and it’s uniform. What you’re wearing is more normal.

You look great, a very successful outfit. As for a Lovat Green or Brown set, keep an eye on

My last Argyll jacket and waistcoat is a Lovat Green set from William Glen and Sons, they still have them on sale

Looks lovely; a very nice outfit.
As mentioned, if you keep an eye out in a few places, you might get lucky as far as other tweeds. I scored a Harris Tweed matching jacket and waistcoat (based on the label, probably 60's) for under $100 shipped on eBay. Those deals aren't there everyday but patience can be rewarded.

Thank you all, kindly.
I feel much better wearing the oxfords than ghillies, and they have the added benefit of going along fine with jeans and other saxon wear.
The day sporran pictured here was a $20 eBay score (thanks to Richard's thread) and the jacket & waistcoat were second-hand on Etsy for about $180.00.
I do have several saved searches running on eBay.co.uk :-)

It was the best price I could find I was looking for something to come from Scotland but this was right up the street so it was a much better option for me.

Firstly, your outfit looks good. Well done.
But one minor point: those shoes aren't Oxfords. They're Derbies. The difference is in the construction for the lacing as described here. That said, it's an interesting style of shoe you're wearing. The soft synthetic sole matieral with lug treads and no visible heel, coupled with the soft leather finish that isn't meant to be polished, as well as the lacing style, lend themselves more towards a casual shoe. But the cap toe dresses it up a smidge. Personally, I would probably say these shoes are suitable for daywear but might fall short for "smart" daywear where a polished shoe with defined heel would be called for.

And here I thought I was quite knowledgable for finally understanding the difference between oxfords and brogues!
Thank you Tobus, I appreciate your compliment and your setting me straight. I assumed they counted as oxfords because the company calls them "Oxford-style," and because they kind of look like the Rockport Oxfords (which I think were also really Derbies) my Dad wore when I was young. I hadn't thought to actually look up the definition!
I've got to make some compromises on account of my wide foot, and some on account of budget. These are probably as nice as I'll go for now, but eventually I'd like to pick up something like these Carets for a dressier option. Perhaps then I'll try again for the "Smart" qualifier. :-)
