What do you normally carry in your day sporran?

A comment from another thread has made me wonder. It was something along the lines of a kilted chap walking across Canada and a comment was made about him wearing a sporran and that its got to be a painful exercise. It got me wondering Why? So two questions arose in my mind.

What do you normally carry in your day sporran?

Are you wearing the sporran too low?

Me? If I am not wearing a jacket of some sort. Very little. A small wallet when in town, keys when necessary, handkerchief.

To the second question. I have never found a sporran "painful" to wear in normal circumstances. Probably due to my answer to question one.

I have also never found a sporran painful or uncomfortable to wear.

What do I keep in it?

Typically wallet/card-holder; phone; maybe some hand wipes (when hiking or leading a tour); flask (when attending a match); cash/notes (when at the market - the small change generally goes in my waistcoat pocket as it's a bugger to fish it our of the bottom of a sporran - same with my car key if I have it); and a hanky (unless I have one in my jacket pocket).

Billfold, keys, phone. I've never found wearing a sporran to present the problem where it might be painful in that, or any, manner.

If I wear the sporran too low, then yes, it does become painful. But if it's painful, that should inform one's decision about where to wear it. For myself, my keyring no longer fitting in a sporran without causing an unsightly bulge was the impetus to discard many old and useless keys.

…All worn high enough that it isn’t “personal armour”. No pain.

I know that sounds like a lot, but I’ve also scaled everything to be very small. I’m on call 24/7/365 as a priest, so the phone is both the largest item by a very long way and also unavoidable. My solution isn't a lesser number of things, but a considerably lesser size of things.

* Now… if I’m wearing a jacket (which is more often than not) these items all migrate to the inner pockets thereof.

wallet, phone, keys if its not appropriate to have them elsewhere on my person, a pen knife and small flashlight if the occasion calls for it, and these days my mask when its not on my face.

I've never found a sporran to be painful to wear, mayhaps because it sits high enough to not affect things too much. I've had to run while wearing a sporran from time to time, escaping a downpour and such, no pain what so ever.

If I am wearing a waistcoat/jacket, the phone and the handkerchief migrate to pockets.

I feel many men overload their sporrans to the point they’d be better served with a backpack.

I try to only carry a wallet and keys. With a jacket I might also carry my phone.

I’ve found carrying less to be liberating, especially when I skip the phone.

It does get a little heavy on the hips at times, mainly I think due to the multitool. But for me, it's worth it to know I've always got a pair of pliers, screwdrivers, knife, scissors, file (yes, I use this), wire cutter (this, too), etc. on me at all times.

Still less than I carried in my pockets when wearing jeans. Pocket microscope, C-clamp, miniature butane soldering iron and blow torch (great on frozen locks!), hammer, mini socket set, small bottle of hot sauce for blandness emergencies, etc. 'Ya know, the normal stuff.
