Still haven't stayed in a Hostelling International hostel that I liked. It seems many of them have curfews and way to many rules. I always found the independant hostels to be more my taste (especially in the UK), but yes you are right, hostels can be a ton of fun.
We do have several great (and not so great ) hostels in the city. I will be looking into them, and will let you all know what I can find. Having said that , the Jericho Hostel (and HI hostel) is apparently one of Vancouver's best. It's right downtown, and near the beach.
