From reading their definitions, it would appear that they are saying the Prince Charlie would be "formal" or at least "more formal" than encouraged for this event. Whereas a dark Argyle and black Black Barathea five button waistcoat is just "formal enough".

I'll be giving a lecture on the Saturday and will grab some pictures. This will be my Day Dress (Striped of Check Shirt; Regimental Tie; and Brass Cantled Sporran) :-).

It was a good day and nice to see a number of the other chiefs there: some I know; some I haven't seen in 30 years, and some I'd never met.
I have to say, someone needs to take the new chief aside and offer some guidance on his dress.
