I don't know if it's that well known outside of the piping world, but these Games (known colloquially as "Maxville" amongst pipers) have long been the home of the North American Pipe Band Championships.

Since most bands only have the budget for one big trip a year (if that!) the choice is often whether to attend Maxville, or the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow. For bands here on the Left Coast these two events are fairly comparable in expense.

Hello Darrin, whilst I have never been to a North American Highland Games, I get the impression that the games on your side of the Atlantic are generally much bigger then even the largest Scottish Highland Games in Scotland.
