Sharply turned out as always Ern!

While I, sadly, do not have any photographs to post, I thought I'd post a quick summary of the adventures. I live in Massachusetts but drove out to Cleveland, Ohio to help my friend Seán after he had a hip replacement. Today was the surgeon check-up, so Seán wore a fabulous grey waistcoat from St Kilda in Glasgow, and his new 8-yard style, reverse Kingussie pleated kilt made by Barb Tewksbury in the Auld Scotland tweed. Seán's a good man for the hose and shoes, too, so he was well turned-out.

I wore my Barb Tewksbury 8-yard style, knife-pleated 13 oz wool kilt in the Co. Cavan tartan and a more casual waistcoat from Wah Maker.

After the check-in, we enjoyed a fine casual lunch in Cleveland and then, with me driving, Seán toured me around some of Cleveland's sights. A good day. Sorry I don't have photos!

For yesterday's Kilted Friday Adventure my Scottish Wildcat tartan Kingussie was next up in rotation from my armoire. My first stop was at a Labcorp to get a lab test. The phlebotomist inquired about the occasion to be wearing a kilt. I told her it was a take off on TGIF with adding the kilt, Thank Goodness It's Kilted Friday. She said her husband wore his Royal Air Force Tartan kilt when thy attended Burns'Nights in the UK. She shared how much she enjoyed dressing up to the expected standards. I shared with that our local Scottish Society hosted one every year. A good encounter.

Yesterday(Friday) was the debut of my new to me surplus RRS leather sporran. Wore it with a very casual folded down hose, Gaelic language t-shirt and St. Louis Cardinals kilt pin. The kilt was Mackenzie Modern.

This TGIKF I met up for lunch with a past president of my Home Owners Association that this week I was voted by the membership to the Board of Directors. Yes, I'm 'gilting the lilly' with the abundance of XMT'S logos. The kilt is a USA Kilts casual in the XMTS tartan.



But have reason to do so because Wednesday was my 17th Anniversary of joining this forum. Thanks @Steve Ashton for the well wishes. I learned of of our website when attending the 2007 Grandfather Mountain Highland Games and saw the XMTS t-shirt for sale at the vendor booth of the Caberdancer Graphic Design. Didn't buy one but was kicking myself when I got home. Googling X Marks the Scot, I found this forum. The rest is history ad they say.

Wednesday my anniversay, I attired in a Newsome Single Box Pleat in XMTS tartan with a @Dixiecat blue bonnet pinned with our plant badge the dandelion for it's business meeting of the Scottish Society of Fredericksburg. Afterwards I picked up the tab of the members who imbided at the Colonial Tavern. They were "Over The Moon" to celebrate my special day!

Just an historical note -
Caberdancer Graphic Design were who originated the concept of X marking a Scot using the Scottish Saltire as the "X".
They produced t-shirts and licence plate frames and other items for sale at Highland Games.
It is at one of these Games back in 2003 that the founder of XMarksTheScot.com, Hank Hanna, saw one of these t-shirts.
Hank would attend games and take photos of stuff like guys with their kilts on backwards. He wanted to start a photo website where he could post his photo collection on line.
He approached Caberdancer and asked to use their idea of X Marks the Scot. The reply was that they did not control xmarksthescot.com and he could use that.

And this forum XMarksthescot.com was born. It first hit the internet on 22 Jan 2004.
After our founder Highlandtide, (of Charlestown, SC) the first member was Kindra Walker (from Colorado) soon followed on the same day by Michael of Amerikilts (Cheltenham, PA) and blu (Ontario, Canada).
The next day saw 7 new members.
We first broke 100 members within the first 5 months. 1000 members within a year and a half.
Many of the early members came to X Marks from a site of "men's fashion freedom" and were looking for a place that was polite and respectful.
We now have 24,788 members who have made 1,224,522 individual posts within 77,343 distinct threads. (These numbers can be found by clicking on the "Forum" tab on the top menu bar and scrolling down near the bottom.)
Unfortunately only 5 of the original 100 members are still with us. Including Rocky of USA Kilts. My official join date is 24 Sep. 2004 although I had lurked since April. Rocky is member 23 and I am member 223.
Today we are the world's oldest continual, largest, and most active, on-line community dedicated to the kilt. X Marks predates facebook and most other sites on today's internet. Other sites which are about cars or gaming may be larger but we are right up there with some of the largest internet sites in the world.
Most of X Marks success is because it was decided by Hank Hanna at the very beginning, and continued by me when I bought the forum in Oct. 2010, to keep our focus on one niche topic, the kilt, and provide a place where those who wished to wear the kilt, and talk with others about the kilt, could do so among those with the same passion, with tolerance and respect.


And it all started with a guy taking photos at games and seeing a t-shirt with a catchy name.

One of the complaints about xmarks is one of the reasons I keep returning: it's simplicity and -- to some -- how antiquated it is. XMARKS is not an app, it doesn't ping your mobile with notifications, and it doesn't have a algorithm to stimulate "engagement." I have to go to the website, and do the work myself to find what I'm looking for. I kinda love that aspect of it.

Thanks to everyone for their role in keeping it alive and relevant.

I went to dinner wearing my new American Dream wool kilt for the first time on Friday. Unfortunately no picture, so I didn't have much to post.

I love threaded forums.

I have long wondered why there is no equivalent in the workplace.

Everyone has IM or chat-based tools, but they all follow the crappy Facebook model that is pure stream of conscience. Its just an endless list of replies with no organization. Its horrible.
